Year 6 - The Eagles

Welcome to Year 6! This is an incredibly important and exciting year as we prepare for the transition to secondary school. The children have already impressed us with their maturity and enthusiasm for learning. We look forward to an action-packed year full of discovery, creativity, and progress. What we've been up to this term

W/C 

15/9/25
This week we have learnt about the parts of the human heart in Science and factors and multiples in Maths.
22/9/25
This week we have dissected lamb's hearts in Science and learnt about the abolition of slavery and the factors that led to it in History.
29/9/25
This week we have presented what we have learnt about slavery and The British Empire in History, and we have begun to learn  how to do long division in Maths.
6/10/25
This week we have continued learning to play the ukulele and handbells in Music and we have created some art inspired by the artist

Reading
Reading records are checked weekly. Every read earns a raffle ticket, with books as prizes at term’s end. Children should read at least four times per week. Each child has a guided reading book and a personal choice book. Guided reading sessions take place at least once a week.

P.E.
PE is on Monday and Friday afternoons. Children must bring PE kits and appropriate footwear. Earrings must be removed or taped at home; staff cannot remove earrings.

Snack
Healthy snacks are encouraged (e.g. fruit, veg, low-fat yogurt). Water bottles may be brought from home. Fizzy drinks and unhealthy snacks are discouraged.

Transition to Secondary School
Year 6 pupils take part in transition activities throughout the year to prepare them for secondary school. These include:

  • Visits and induction days at local secondary schools

  • Classroom activities that build independence and confidence

  • Information sessions for parents and carers
     

Revision Time
Children are encouraged to revise little and often ahead of SATs. Just 30 minutes per day can make a big difference.
