Take a Look at What We’ve Been Getting Up To This Term

In Art we looked at the three primary colours and used them to create a piece of art in the style of Piet Mondrian.

This term we are learning about:

  • Materials and what they are used for and their properties in Science.

  • Annesley and the geographical features in our local area in geography.

  • Queen Elizabeth and King Charles in history.

  • Making moving cards in D.T.

  • In Art we are learning about primary and secondary colours and looking at the art of Piet Mondrian.

Reading in Year 1

Reading is incredibly important in Year 1 as it supports all learning. We read regularly and encourage parents to read with their child at home. Ask who, what, where, when, why questions and recap stories to support comprehension.

Please sign your child’s reading diary after each session. Raffle tickets are awarded for regular reading at home – with a prize draw each half-term to win a book!

Rocket Phonics
We follow Rocket Phonics, which is closely linked to our reading books from Rising Stars. This systematic programme helps children decode using the alphabetic code from the very beginning. Books are fully decodable up to turquoise level.

Reading squads run three afternoons per week and all children take part in this. Extra support is provided through small group intervention to ensure all pupils keep up.
