What we're learning this year
Spring 1: Dream Big
Week 1 & 2 - Doctor Maisy - We have been exploring doctor’s kits and learning new vocabulary. We now know what a stethoscope is used for. We enjoyed practising putting bandages on our friends. In maths, we have been working on positional language. To support our storytelling of The Little Red Hen, we tasted different types of bread and even made our own.
Week 3 & 4 - Oliver's Vegetables - We have had lots of discussions about healthy eating and have sorted foods into healthy and unhealthy. We have explored real vegetables like beetroot, potatoes and spinach. In baking we tasted different fruits and made smoothies.
Autumn 2: Let's Celebrate
Week 1 & 2 - Sparks in the Sky - We have been sharing our ideas about how we celebrate Bonfire Night with our families and enjoyed eating hot dogs and mushy peas. We are continuing to work hard in phonics and maths, using five-frames to count out different amounts. We have also been learning the names of musical instruments and experimenting with the different sounds they make.
Week 3 & 4 - Not a Stick! - We have been using our imagination lots and have been thinking about what our stick could become! We had some really great ideas. We have been busy writing letters to Santa and enjoyed a wellie walk to the post box to post them. This half term we have also performed our Christmas Nativity to our families. We put on a great show and did super singing.
Autumn 1:
Week 1 - Settling into our new class
Week 2 & 3 - Owl Babies - We shared the story, learned new vocabulary, talked about our emotions during circle time, and created some fabulous owl pictures.
Week 3 & 4 - I Like Myself - We shared what we like about ourselves and what we are good at, and completed pattern work in maths linked to 'My Mum and Dad Make Me Laugh', including sorting, matching and finding patterns in the environment.
Week 5 & 6 - The Family Book - We explored lots of different families and talked about how all families are different. Wee brought in pictures of our families and made lolly stick houses. We also practised making our own ABAB patterns using sticks and pine cones.
