Journey Down the Amazon
These are just some of the questions we will be answering as part of our Project work:
Where in the world are the tropical rain forests?
Why are there rain forests?
What is the climate like in the rain forest?
What lives in the rain forest?
What is a monsoon?
What are the different layers of the rainforest?
What is deforestation, what are its affects and how can we reduce it?
We will spend our first three weeks looking at a book called 'The explorer' this will help us to write some description, a diary and find out more about what the Amazon rain forest is like.
The children will then chose an animal to design and write a two page spread for, which then be made into a class book.
The final few weeks, we will use the book 'The Vanishing Rainforest,' children will learn about deforestation and write a report on what it is and how we can reduce it.
In Maths, we will continue our work on fractions, learning how to find a fraction of a number. We will then move onto making connections with percentages and decimals. In the final few weeks we will recap our multiplication and division methods including more reasoning. Below is an example of some of the reasoning we will be doing:
We will be working on our sketching skills throughout the half term and using the work by
and using the book 'Slowly, slowly, slowly said Sid the Sloth' for inspiration to develop our collage skills.
