In Numeracy we will continue to practise and improve our knowledge of times tables. The children will develop their ability to solve problems with more than one step and to explain their reasoning. They will use a variety of different models to represent and support their calculations. They will focus upon learning to add, subtract, order, compare and calculate fractions and decimals. Our last topic will be time and we will learn to tell the time to within one minute and calculate time intervals using the 24 hour clock.
In Literacy we will be studying poetry from "Evidence of Dragons" by Pie Corbett. We will learn about the effect of stylistic features - onomatopoeia, alliteration, simile, metaphor - as well as the use of repetition and structure. The children will use these skills to write and edit their own poems. In addition, we will continue to develop our knowledge of standard English and grammatical vocabulary. We will practise spelling patterns and the year 3 and 4 spelling lists, and will improve our spoken language through regular structured activities.
In Science, we will be learning about the importance of electricity. The children will learn to recognise if a circuit can function and how to use a range of components to turn switches, lights and buzzers on and off. They will discuss how to create a fair test and focus upon predicting what will happen and reaching a conclusion, using key vocabulary.
This term we will be looking at how religion can affect our daily lives.
We will begin by reading the book 'Something Else' to explore what it means to be different.
Over the following weeks we will investigate the following;
