This half term children will look at stories with repeating patterns. They will act out and write their own versions of different stories including 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' and 'I wish I had a Monster'. They will listen to and read a variety of traditional tales including 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Little Red Riding Hood'. Children will sequence the key events from the stories and will retell them both orally and in writing. The focus will be on using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. They will also work on making their writing more interesting by using interesting words and a variety of conjunctions. Towards the end of this half term, children will begin to look at instructions and will work towards writing their own set of instructions.
This half term children will learn how to locate 1 and 2-digit numbers on beadstrings, number lines and hundred squares. They will revise pairs of numbers that add to make 5, 6, 7 and 10 and will solve simple additions and subtractions by putting the biggest number first and counting on or back in their heads. They will continue work on 3D shapes and will work on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
