Forest Schools runs every Tuesday afternoon in F2, children will take part in Forest Schools for a whole term in a group of 10 children. They will take part in a range of activities and get the chance to use tools and even make a fire!
The first group taking part in Forest Schools will be going outside every Tuesday afternoon until December 12th.
This week was our first week doing Forest Schools! We were very excited! We made our way outside and had a game of '1,2,3 where are you?!' we hid in the trees and behind hills, we took it in turns to count and helped our friends to find the rest of the group! Miss Housley told us about a special tree that grows in our school, we went on a journey to find it, when we got there she told us it is called the 'Friendship tree'! We all told the friendship tree how we were feeling and put something down to show how we felt. Miss Housley then told us the story out the very sneezy dragon, he had sneezed so hard he blew down all our little friends houses! We helped to build them new homes and made slingshots and swards to scare the dragon off! We really enjoyed our first Forest Schools session!
This week in Forest Schools we carried on with our adventures with our little friends. First we each collected an item which reminded us of last week, we made a circle around them and shared why they were special to us. We then played a game called 'vanish' where we had to hide in less than 10 seconds! We then played 'meet a tree' where we had to take a friend to a tree; we talked about what the tree looked like, we felt the bark and the leafs and then some of us had a go at climbing it! During meet a tree we heard the sneezy dragon! We sneezed loudly to scare him off and followed a trail of clues to the friendship tree, there we found a letter from our little friends, asking if we could help them find the things on the list. We worked together to find the items and left them at the friendship tree for our little friends.
This week in Forest Schools we reminded ourselves what happened with our little friends last week, we collected some objects and made a picture to remind us. We then played some new games where we had to work as a team! We played 'Fire' where we were woodland animals who had to try and run past the fire without getting caught! We had to work as a team to workout the best way to do it. We then played 'predator and prey' where the prey hid quietly, the predators had to work together to find them! We then made our way up to the friendship tree to see if our little friends had left us another note; this time we found a note from the Sneezy Dragon! He was asking for help to stop his sneezing, so we made him magic potions!
This week in Forest Schools we continued to help our new friend the sneezy dragon! We found another letter from him at the friendship tree; it told us that our magic medicine worked and his sneezing has stopped! We were very happy! However because his sneezing has stopped he couldn't fly anymore, he was stuck in our playground! We decided to build him a campfire to keep him warm until he could fly again, we tried to light the fire by rubbing two sticks together. We were very proud of our campfire and sat round it together, the children worked well together to help the dragon!
This week in Forest School's we had more time to explore our own interests. We started by reflecting upon last week; we spoke about the campfire we made for the dragon and made a small campfire to represent what we did. We then played a game of 'predator and prey' we changed the rules a bit and we had to hide in a new place, this made it very hard for the predators! We then spoke about what 'natural' and 'unnatural' objects are and we collected some examples of both of them. We also looked at Autumn objects, we collected leafs, pine cones and acorns! Some of us then made Autumn artwork using natural objects, we made animals, acorns and hedgehog houses! Some of us enjoyed climbing trees and rolling down hills!
This week in Forest Schools we found a map from our little friends! The map told us the way to the Enchanted Forest! We looked at the map together and followed it from the friendship tree to the Enchanted Forest, we had to work together because the map was a bit tricky to read. When we got to the Enchanted Forest we listened to the story of our little friends, they went to the Enchanted Forest to stop the sneezy dragon! On their journey they met Fairies, Trolls and a wise old wizard. After the story some of us chose to make magic wands like the wizard had, then we cast spells on each other! Some other children decided to role play the journey and pretended they were our little friends!
This week in Forest Schools it was very wet and muddy! So we explored the rain; we jumped in muddy puddles, we went on a puddle hunt and some of us had a go at making mud faces on the trees. Some of us were really brave and put some mud on our faces! We then had a game of hide and seek! After hot chocolate we made a big pile of leafs and took it in turns to jump in it! It was lots of fun! After we all jumped in it we enjoyed throwing the leafs in the air.
We enjoyed throwing the leafs!
This week in Forest Schools we found a letter from our little friends! It told us that it was the sneezy dragons Birthday, and they wanted to throw him a birthday party, but they needed our help! We worked together to make the dragon a birthday cake, we decorated the forest by making a banner that said 'happy birthday' and we decorated the trees. We then made some party hats and played some party games!
