The first group taking part in Forest Schools will be going outside every Tuesday or Thursday afternoon until March 27th and 29th, please make sure your child brings weather appropriate clothing as we go outside in all weathers.
We really enjoyed our first week at Forest Schools! We started off by sharing our ideas about what Forest Schools is and what we are looking forward to doing, we then played a game called "1,2,3 where are you?!" where we had to hide in different places! This was a good chance for us to explore the woodlands and get to know the area. We had some time to explore and play in the different areas such as the mud kitchen. We had a short break for some hot chocolate, Miss Housley told us we were going to go on a journey to find her little friends who live in the woods. We had to creep really quietly so we didn't scare them off. When we got there we found out that the Very Sneezy Dragon had sneezed and scared all of our little friends away! We decided to help them we needed to scare the dragon off, we sneezed really loudly everytime we saw him to scare him off. Some children made ninja sticks to use if the dragon came back. We can't wait for next week!
This week in Forest Schools we followed some clues back to the friendship tree, we saw some sticks and berries which had been made into houses, they must have been made by our little friends! When we got to the tree we found a letter from the very sneezy dragon, he said he was sorry for blowing down our friends houses and asked if we could help him. Some of us made hot chocolate for the dragon and some other children made a magic potion to make him feel better. We left clues for the dragon so he could find the potions and hot chocolate easily. We then played a game called 'meet a tree' where we took a friend to a tree we like, we talked to our friend about the tree and even had a go at climbing it!
This week in Forest Schools we had a list of things to find, we thought that the dragon must have left it for us! We had lots of different things to find, some of them we had to read the number and count out the number of items. We had to help each other to find things if we couldn't find them, we worked well as a team! We then found a tree which was really fun to climb! We took it in turns to climb it and help each get down. After a hot chocolate break we played some games, we played 'pass they bogey' and 'vanish' where we had to hide really quickly!
This week in Forest Schools we made a picture frame on the floor out of sticks and filled it with items which reminded us of last week! We then found a map on the magic spot, we took it in turns to lead the rest of the group, following the map, the map took us to the enchanted forest! When we got there Miss Housley told us a story about the enchanted forest, we then had time to make magic wands, fairy houses and some children went on a hunt to find the wise old wizard! After a hot drink break we played '1,2,3 where are you?!' and had some time for some free play.
This week in Forest Schools we went on a Gruffalo hunt! We found the mouse next to a sign saying "deep dark woods this way" we followed different footprints and found all of the animals from the story in their houses! We had to look for clues to help us work out who was next and who was hiding where. We had lots of fun! After we found the gruffalo some children decided to make some 'gruffalo crumble' in the mud kitchen, some children made a trap to catch the gruffalo by digging a hole in the ground! We had lots of fun finding the gruffalo!
This week in Forest Schools we explored sounds in nature, we lay on the ground listening to what sounds we could hear. We talked about the sounds we heard then had time to explore what sounds we could make, some of us used sticks to make sounds against trees and gates to make different sounds. Some children used their bodies to make sounds, we stomped in the mud together to make sound too! We all had a go at making a 'jingle stick' we played them together and made our own outdoor band!
This week in Forest Schools we had a snow day! We played in the snow, we made snow angels, snowmen and giant snow balls! Some of us made tracks in the snow with sticks and wrote our names in the snow too! We had lots of fun in the snow!
This week in Forest Schools we got lots of time to play and explore! Some children enjoyed climbing lots of different trees, we talked about which trees were the hardest to climb! Some children explored the changes in the environment, we found daffodils and daisies, some children had a go at making a daisy chain, it was very tricky! After a hot chocolate drink lots of children wanted to have a go on the rope swing, we decided to change it and make it higher to we could use our arms to swing on it, it was lots of fun!
This week in Forest Schools we went on a bug hunt! We had a list of bugs we might find outside, we used magnifying glasses and little pots to put the bugs in to get a closer look! We found lots and lots of wiggly worms! We also found some slugs, snails and beetles, we had lots of fun digging in the dirt! We had to make sure we put the bugs back before we went inside.

Some children then decided to climb trees, other children decided to explore the area or make the dragon some food in the mud kitchen, we talked about what food we like to eat when we are poorly!
Mollie's daisy song
Mollie sang a lovely song about a daisy, Miss Housley could only catch the end of it though!
This week in Forest Schools we learnt all about natural and unnatural objects, we found lots of different objects on the magic spot, we talked about the differences in them and what natural and unnatural means. We sorted the objects into two groups and then went to explore and find more objects to sort. We then used natural and unnatural objects to make things for our little friends and the dragon. We made bridges using milk crates and planks of wood, we then role played the three billy goats gruff story! Some children made a campfire for our little friends using sticks and natural objects.
